Fish and aquatic life are affected by hemlock. Click here to learn about the Hemlock and its affect on the native Brook Trout and here to learn about the Hemlock and its affect on aquatic stream life (pdf). Birds use hemlocks for habitat and breeding, some of these birds are the Black-throated blue warbler, the Black-throated green warbler, the Blackburnian warbler, the Mourning dove, the Blue Jay, the Boreal Chickadee, the Robin, and the Wood Thrush.

Some animals (such as the Chickadees, the Goldfinches, and the Pine Siskins ) feed on hemlock seeds. The Wild Turkey and the Grouse use the hemlocks as shelter during the winter. Also, other animals that depend on the hemlocks on one way or another are the Red Squirrels and the White-tailed Deer.
